LOOK BOOK SHOOT PREP

TO VISUALISE BOTH COLLECTIONS IN CONTEXT IN A PROFESSIONAL MANNER, I HAVE DECIDED TO CREATE A LOOK BOOK. AS I HAVE 2 CONTRASTING COLLECTIONS I HAVE DECIDED TO DO 2 SEPARATE SHOOTS, WHICH WILL FEATURE IN 1 BOOK AND ALTERNATING SIDES, THEREFORE CREATING 2 LOOK BOOKS BUT IN 1 ACTUAL BOOK.

BOTH SHOOTS HOWEVER WILL HAVE SIMILAR STYLING, HAIR AND MAKE UP WILL BE THE SAME USING NATURAL/MINIMAL MAKEUP WITH A DARK VAMP PURPLE STATEMENT LIP. HAIR WILL BE STRAIGHT AND OUT OF THE FACE, EITHER CENTRE PARTING & TUCKED BEHIND THE EAR OR PUSHED BACK.

STYLING WILL ALSO STAY SIMILAR USING SIMPLE OVERSIZED SILHOUETTES, VERY MINIMAL. AS COLLECTION 2 IS MORE HIGH END, SOME OF THE STYLING AND CLOTHING WILL BE SLIGHTLY MORE SOPHISTICATED.

 COLLECTION 2 // SHOOT 1

AS COLLECTION 2 WAS MORE FOCUSED AROUND DETAILS WITHIN GOTHIC ARCHITECTURE, I DECIDED TO SHOOT IN MANCHESTER TOWN HALL, DUE TO ITS INTERESTING INTERIORS. EVEN THOUGH THE PREMISE WAS FREE TO USE I DID HAVE TO CARRY OUT RISK ASSESSMENTS AND A METHOD STATEMENT TO ENSURE MINIMAL INJURIES AND DISTURBANCES. GETTING PERMISSION FROM THE TOWN HALL WAS TIME CONSUMING, BUT THROUGH PERSISTENT EMAILS AND A COUPLE OF TRIPS TO THE TOWN HALL, SHOWING THE MANAGER EXACTLY WHERE I WANTED TO SHOOT, I GOT PERMISSION. USING THE TOWN HALL FOR THE SHOOT IS VERY RELEVANT TO MY WORK AS IT LINKS TO A KEY THEME IN COLLECTION 2, THEREFORE TAKING THE TIME TO BE ALLOWED ACCESS I FEEL WAS NECESSARY.

COLLECTION 1 // SHOOT 2

AS COLLECTION 1 HAS A VIBRANT MIXED COLOUR PALETTE I HAVE DECIDED TO DO A MUCH MORE MINIMALISTIC SHOOT IN OUR UNIVERSITY STUDIO. I WANT TO USE WHITE FRAMES/BOARDS/PAPERS AND ALSO BRING GREEN PLANTS IN WHITE POTS TO ADD AN EARTHY/NATURAL FEEL TO THE SHOOT. ALSO I FEEL BOTANICAL WORKS WELL AS COLLECTION 1 WAS CREATED USING ABSTRACT IMAGERY OF PLANTS.

WHEN RESEARCHING ON PINTEREST FOR IDEAS FOR MINIMAL SET DESIGNS I CAME ACROSS A FEW SET DESIGNERS WHO INSPIRED ME ESPECIALLY MATE MORO AND NORA GYENGE. FROM THE IMAGES YOU CAN SEE THEY ARE BOTH VERY MINIMALISTIC, BUT THROUGH THE USE OF WHITE BOARDS/PLANTS THE SET BECOMES MUCH MORE ART DIRECTED AND INTERESTING. THEREFORE I PLAN TO USE SIMILAR MATERIALS WITHIN SHOOT 2.

MARKET RESEARCH // DESIGN INSPIRATION // COLLECTION 2

MY SECOND COLLECTION WILL BE A COMBINED PROCESSES COLLECTION OF DIGITAL PRINT, LASER CUTTING AND ETHOS EMBROIDERY, AN FOR THIS REASON MY MARKET WILL BE HIGH END.

I HAVE TAKEN PRINT INSPIRATION FROM DESIGNERS SUCH AS DRIES VAN NOTEN, MARISSA WEBB, YIGAL AZROUEL AND SPORTMAX. THESE DESIGNERS ALL USE A MONOCHROME COLOUR PALETTE WITH ABSTRACT LINES AND SHAPES, CREATING INTERESTING TONES AND TEXTURES. FOR MY COLLECTION I WANT A COMBINATION OF MINIMAL AND CHAOTIC PRINTS SIMILAR TO COLLECTION 1. HOWEVER AS THIS COLLECTION WILL BE MONOCHROME SOME DESIGNS WILL APPEAR MUCH MORE MINIMAL. RESEARCHING IN TO HIGHER END DESIGNERS HAS ALSO ALLOWED ME TO SEE WHAT KIND OF FABRICS MY COLLECTION WILL NEED. I STILL WANT A REASONABLE LIGHT WEIGHT FABRIC BUT MAYBE ONE WITH LESS OPACITY, LIKE THE DESIGNERS ABOVE.

MY DESIGN INSPIRATION/MARKET RESEARCH ALSO INCLUDED LOOKING IN TO DESIGNERS I HAVE PREVIOUSLY LOOKED AT SUCH AS PETER PILOTTO AND MARY KATRANTZOU WHO ALSO COMBINE PROCESSES SUCH AS EMBROIDERY AND DIGITAL PRINT. IN DOING THIS IMMEDIATELY GIVES A HIGH END FINISH AND ADDS MORE DEPTH AND DETAIL TO DESIGNS. FRANCIS BITONTI IS A TEXTILE DESIGNER WHO LASER CUTS LEATHER INTRICATELY WHICH HAS ALSO INSPIRED MY DESIGNS WHEN CONCERNING THE LASER CUTTER, ALSO ENABLING ME TO VISUALISE HOW LASER CUT PIECES WORK ON THE BODY OR AS A WEARABLE GARMENT.

OUTWARD FACING // ONLINE PRESENCE

LOGO // BRANDING

https://www.pinterest.com/emilypogue11/logo-ideas/

A LOGO IS A UNIQUE AND CLEAR WAY TO IDENTIFY MY DESIGNS AND BE RECOGNISABLE TO ANY POTENTIAL EMPLOYERS OR EXTERNAL AUDIENCES. I AM CURRENTLY COLLABORATING WITH A GRAPHIC DESIGNER WHO CAN CREATIVELY PORTRAY MY IDEAS FOR A LOGO WITH MORE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE WITHIN THIS AREA, UNDOUBTEDLY GIVING IT A PROFESSIONAL FINISH. ABOVE IS A SCREENSHOT OF MY PINTEREST PAGE WHICH I HAVE SENT THE GRAPHIC DESIGNER, I WANT MY LOGO TO BE SIMPLE, CLEAN AND MINIMALISTIC.

ONLINE PORTFOLIO // WEBSITE

I HAVE ALSO PRODUCED A WEBSITE ALMOST AS AN ONLINE PORTFOLIO, GIVING ANY POTENTIAL EMPLOYERS OR EXTERNAL AUDIENCES A PROFESSIONAL AND EASY ACCESSIBLE WAY TO VIEW MY WORK. ONLINE PRESENCE IS A MASSIVE PART OF TODAYS CULTURE, NOT ONLY NATIONALLY BUT GLOBALLY, THEREFORE I FEEL A WEBSITE IS VITAL. BY CREATING MY OWN WEBSITE I GET TO ADD MY OWN PERSONAL STYLE, WHICH AGAIN WILL DISTINCTIVELY MAKE MY WORK/DESIGNS RECOGNISABLE, ESPECIALLY AS IT WILL HAVE MY LOGO ON TOO.

TEXTILE FEDERATION // SHORTLISTED

I FOUND OUT I HAVE BEEN SHORTLISTED FOR THE TEXTILE FEDERATION COMPETITION 'MOTION'. THE COMPETITION REQUIRED YOU TO CREATE DESIGNS FOR ACTIVEWEAR WITH THE THEME MOTION. I CREATED THIS DESIGN FOR THE PRACTISE UNIT AND USED IT AS AN ENTRY, AS I FELT THE DESIGN REFLECTED THE BRIEF WELL. I THINK COMPETITIONS SET BY COMPANIES LIKE TEXTILE FEDERATION ARE USEFUL AND HELP YOU PREPARE AND CHALLENGE YOU FOR THE INDUSTRY. THEREFORE I PLAN TO KEEP ENTERING SUCH COMPETITIONS, ESPECIALLY ONCE LEAVING UNIVERSITY, AS THEY WILL KEEP ME INVOLVED AND FAMILIAR AND ALSO A WAY TO GET MY WORK OUT THERE.
