VISUAL RESEARCH // ABSTRACT DRAWINGS

TO DEVELOP MY DESIGNS FROM THE PRACTICE UNIT I BROADENED MY VISUAL RESEARCH OF STRUCTURAL SHAPES, TAKING PHOTOGRAPHS OF FLORALS AT UNUSAL ANGLES TO GIVE MYSELF MORE INTERESTING SHAPES TO WORK WITH. BY PHOTOGRAPHING THEM IN THIS WAY ALSO REFLECTS AND FURTHER EXPLORES MY THEME 'ABSTRACT', THEREFORE THESE PHOTOGRAPHS OF FLORALS WOULD BE DIFFERENT TO THE USUAL CONVENTIONAL EVERYDAY FLORAL IMAGERY WE SEE ALOT. ALSO USING FLORALS HAS OPENED UP MY COLOUR PALETTE TO BE MORE BOLD AND VIBRANT GIVING ME MUCH MORE VARIETY.BY MAKING MY DESIGNS ABSTRACT ALLOWS THEM TO BE SEASON-LESS, THEREFORE I AIM TO CREATE MY COLLECTIONS FOR AW/SS 2016.

TO FURTHER DEVELOP AND REFLECT MY CONCEPT OF 'ABSTRACT STRUCTURES' I CREATED A3 DRAWINGS TAKING SECTIONS FROM MY FLORAL PHOTOGRAPHS FOCUSING ON PARTICULAR SHAPES AND COLOUR WITHIN THEM, CREATING UNUSAL AND INTERESTING IMAGERY THAT CONTRADICTS USUAL FLORAL DESIGNS. EACH DRAWING IS UNIQUE AND UNKNOWN FROM ANOTHER, ENABLING ME TO GO ON AND CREATE A COLLECTION OF PRINTS WITH DEPTH AND VARIETY. USING A COMBINATION OF WATER COLOUR, INKS AND PASTELS ALLOWED MY DRAWINGS TO HAVE A RANGE OF TEXTURES AND TONES WHICH I NOW CAN EDIT AND USE WHEN MAKING MY PRINT COLLECTIONS, WHICH I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO CREATE THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHS AND DIGITAL PROCESSES ALONE.
