DESIGN INSPIRATION // MARKET RESEARCH // COLLECTION 1

MY FIRST COLLECTION WILL BE SOLEY DIGITALLY PRINTED FASHION FABRICS, I WANT MY DESIGNS TO BE UP MARKET BUT AT THE SAME TIME AFFORDABLE. THEREFORE I HAVE TAKEN PRINT INSPIRATION FROM DESIGNERS SUCH AS PETER PILOTTO, KENZO, MARY KATRANTZOU AND CLOVER CANYON TO ENABLE MY DESIGNS HAVE SIMILAR STYLES AND PROCESSES, GIVING THEM A MORE HIGH END EDGE. HOWEVER TO KEEP THEM AFFORDABLE AT THE HIGHER END OF THE HIGHSTREET I HAVE RESEARCHED BRANDS/DESIGNERS SUCH AS ZARA, WHISTLES, FRENCH CONNECTION AND REISS WHO ALSO USE PLACEMENT PRINTS AND ALSO USE SIMILAR FABRICS AND GARMENT SHAPES I WOULD PRINT MY DESIGNS ON TO.

RESEARCHING DESIGNERS SUCH AS CLOVER CANYON//PETER PILOTTO HAS INSPIRED ME TO CREATE PLACEMENT PRINTS, EXPLORING HOW A DESIGN CAN BE SUITED TO A PARTICULAR PART OF THE GARMENT/BODY AND NOT JUST AN ALL OVER PRINT. THE IDEA OF USING ENGINEERED CONTRASTING PLACEMENT PRINTS TOGETHER ON A GARMENT ALSO APPEALS TO ME, THEREFORE I AIM TO EXPLORE MY COLOUR PALETTE THROUGH MY DESIGNS.

BY RESEARCHING BRANDS/STORES SUCH AS ZARA AND REISS ALLOWED ME TO THINK ABOUT WHAT STYLE OF GARMENTS MY PRINTS WOULD WORK ON. I PREFER THE SIMPLE, OVERSIZED SILHOUETTES THESE BRANDS TEND TO SELL, ALSO THROUGH IDENTIFYING MY PREFERRED STYLE OF GARMENTS ALSO ALLOWS ME TO THINK ABOUT WHAT KIND OF FABRICS I WOULD EVENTUALLY PRINT MY COLLECTION ON TO. THEREFORE I NEED TO THINK ABOUT USING LIGHT WEIGHT FABRICS WHICH CAN CREATE NATURAL DRAPES AND FOLDS.
