FINALISED DIGITAL PRINT COLLECTION 1

THROUGH VAST REFINEMENT THIS IS MY FINALISED PRINT COLLECTION 1. THE COLLECTION REFLECTS MY THEME OF ABSTRACT STRUCTURES, TAKING BOTH MY DRAWINGS AND PHOTOGRAPHS AND COMBINING THEM TOGETHER, TAKING RANDOM SECTIONS OF EACH TO CREATE VIBRANT, BOLD ABSTRACT DESIGNS. USING BOTH PHOTOGRAPHIC CONTENT AND DRAWINGS ALLOWED ME TO CREATE CONTRASTING DEPTHS IN MY DESIGNS, WITH UNIQUE TEXTURES AND TONES FROM MY DRAWINGS ALONGSIDE THE POWERFUL STRONG COLOURS AND SHAPES FROM MY PHOTOGRAPHS. I FEEL THE MIXTURE OF MORE MINIMAL PRINTS TO THE MORE CHAOTIC PRINTS CREATES VARIETY AND FLUIDITY WITHIN THE COLLECTION. THE SELECTION PROCESS WAS TIME CONSUMING BUT NEEDED, AS I FEEL IT HAS ALLOWED ME TO PICK DESIGNS WHICH BEST REFLECT MY THEME AND ALSO MY TARGET AUDIENCE/MARKET. I CHOSE TO PRINT ON TO THE FABRIC SINGLE GEORGETTE, AS IT IT A NATURALLY LIGHT WEIGHT FABRIC, EMPHASISING THE FLUIDITY OF MY COLLECTION. KNOWING WHAT WEIGHT FABRIC WAS NEEDED, AGAIN WAS THROUGH EARLY ON RESEARCH IN TO MY SPECIFIC MARKET.

BY CREATING FLATS AND FASHION ILLUSTRATIONS HAS ALLOWED ME TO VISION MY COLLECTION WITH A MORE FOCUSED CONTEXT AND MARKET. BY RESEARCHING IN TO MY MARKET EARLY ON, LOOKING INTO STORES/BRANDS SUCH AS ZARA AND WHISTLES ALLOWED ME TO CREATE PARTICULAR GARMENT SHAPES AND STYLES WHICH REFLECT MY MARKET/AUDIENCE OF THE HIGHER-END OF THE HIGHSTREET, GIVING MY DESIGNS AN EXTERNAL FOCUS. MY FASHION ILLUSTRATIONS HAVE ENABLED ME TO PLAY WITH THE IDEA OF PLACEMENT PRINTS, AND THE POSITIONING OF MY DESIGNS. EARLY RESEARCH ON PRINT DESIGNERS SUCH AS PETER PILOTTO AND CLOVER CANYON ALSO HELPED INSPIRE THE PLACEMENT OF MY PRINTS ON GARMENTS/BODY, ENABLING MYSELF TO DESIGN ILLUSTRATIONS TO PORTRAY MY IDEAS AND VISIONS CLEARLY.

DESIGN INSPIRATION // MARKET RESEARCH // COLLECTION 1

MY FIRST COLLECTION WILL BE SOLEY DIGITALLY PRINTED FASHION FABRICS, I WANT MY DESIGNS TO BE UP MARKET BUT AT THE SAME TIME AFFORDABLE. THEREFORE I HAVE TAKEN PRINT INSPIRATION FROM DESIGNERS SUCH AS PETER PILOTTO, KENZO, MARY KATRANTZOU AND CLOVER CANYON TO ENABLE MY DESIGNS HAVE SIMILAR STYLES AND PROCESSES, GIVING THEM A MORE HIGH END EDGE. HOWEVER TO KEEP THEM AFFORDABLE AT THE HIGHER END OF THE HIGHSTREET I HAVE RESEARCHED BRANDS/DESIGNERS SUCH AS ZARA, WHISTLES, FRENCH CONNECTION AND REISS WHO ALSO USE PLACEMENT PRINTS AND ALSO USE SIMILAR FABRICS AND GARMENT SHAPES I WOULD PRINT MY DESIGNS ON TO.

RESEARCHING DESIGNERS SUCH AS CLOVER CANYON//PETER PILOTTO HAS INSPIRED ME TO CREATE PLACEMENT PRINTS, EXPLORING HOW A DESIGN CAN BE SUITED TO A PARTICULAR PART OF THE GARMENT/BODY AND NOT JUST AN ALL OVER PRINT. THE IDEA OF USING ENGINEERED CONTRASTING PLACEMENT PRINTS TOGETHER ON A GARMENT ALSO APPEALS TO ME, THEREFORE I AIM TO EXPLORE MY COLOUR PALETTE THROUGH MY DESIGNS.

BY RESEARCHING BRANDS/STORES SUCH AS ZARA AND REISS ALLOWED ME TO THINK ABOUT WHAT STYLE OF GARMENTS MY PRINTS WOULD WORK ON. I PREFER THE SIMPLE, OVERSIZED SILHOUETTES THESE BRANDS TEND TO SELL, ALSO THROUGH IDENTIFYING MY PREFERRED STYLE OF GARMENTS ALSO ALLOWS ME TO THINK ABOUT WHAT KIND OF FABRICS I WOULD EVENTUALLY PRINT MY COLLECTION ON TO. THEREFORE I NEED TO THINK ABOUT USING LIGHT WEIGHT FABRICS WHICH CAN CREATE NATURAL DRAPES AND FOLDS.

VISUAL RESEARCH // ABSTRACT DRAWINGS

TO DEVELOP MY DESIGNS FROM THE PRACTICE UNIT I BROADENED MY VISUAL RESEARCH OF STRUCTURAL SHAPES, TAKING PHOTOGRAPHS OF FLORALS AT UNUSAL ANGLES TO GIVE MYSELF MORE INTERESTING SHAPES TO WORK WITH. BY PHOTOGRAPHING THEM IN THIS WAY ALSO REFLECTS AND FURTHER EXPLORES MY THEME 'ABSTRACT', THEREFORE THESE PHOTOGRAPHS OF FLORALS WOULD BE DIFFERENT TO THE USUAL CONVENTIONAL EVERYDAY FLORAL IMAGERY WE SEE ALOT. ALSO USING FLORALS HAS OPENED UP MY COLOUR PALETTE TO BE MORE BOLD AND VIBRANT GIVING ME MUCH MORE VARIETY.BY MAKING MY DESIGNS ABSTRACT ALLOWS THEM TO BE SEASON-LESS, THEREFORE I AIM TO CREATE MY COLLECTIONS FOR AW/SS 2016.

TO FURTHER DEVELOP AND REFLECT MY CONCEPT OF 'ABSTRACT STRUCTURES' I CREATED A3 DRAWINGS TAKING SECTIONS FROM MY FLORAL PHOTOGRAPHS FOCUSING ON PARTICULAR SHAPES AND COLOUR WITHIN THEM, CREATING UNUSAL AND INTERESTING IMAGERY THAT CONTRADICTS USUAL FLORAL DESIGNS. EACH DRAWING IS UNIQUE AND UNKNOWN FROM ANOTHER, ENABLING ME TO GO ON AND CREATE A COLLECTION OF PRINTS WITH DEPTH AND VARIETY. USING A COMBINATION OF WATER COLOUR, INKS AND PASTELS ALLOWED MY DRAWINGS TO HAVE A RANGE OF TEXTURES AND TONES WHICH I NOW CAN EDIT AND USE WHEN MAKING MY PRINT COLLECTIONS, WHICH I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO CREATE THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHS AND DIGITAL PROCESSES ALONE.
